Words That Rhyme

This exercise is appropriate for beginning computer users. It teaches you the use of the Tab key to insert a fixed number of spaces. It also shows that the Backspace key will erase a Tab.

Directions:

  1. Save this page on your local computer in c: drive or in a: on your floppy disk. To do this, click File, click Save as. Then in the Save as Type box, click the little arrow and choose Text File. Finally click Save.
  2. Open the MS Word by clicking its icon.
  3. Open the file you just saved. Now you are ready to start the exercise.
  4. You should say the words aloud as you are doing this exercise to figure out whether the words on the left sound like DATE or LIGHT or THAT. Then, put the word under the word it sounds like.
  5. To put the words on the left under the word they sound like, put your cursor to the left of the word, use the TAB key to move the words to the right, and the BACKSPACE key to move them backwards.
