You should do (Word--Using MS Word I and Word--Using MS Word II) before doing this exercise. This exercise helps you to learn to use MS Word. Please print out this page, then follow the directions step by step to complete the work.

  1. Open MS Word.
  2. Type the following letter:

 

Dear Elsy:

It is 3:00 in the afternoon, and I am sitting in the library. It isn't a very nice day. It is raining, and I am feeling homesick. I miss my friends and family. There are many students in the library today. Most of them are studying. A few students are resting or talking to their friends, but most of them are busy.

I hope you are well and happy. When will you come to visit? How are your children?

I am fine. I am learning English art South Seattle Community College. I am learning a lot. Now I can write a letter in English to you! I like my college.

  1. Save the document on your floppy disk under the name "Letter".
  2. Go back to the beginning of the letter and replace the word "library" with the word "cafeteria":
    • Select the word you want to replace: Use your mouse to point at the word, double click the word.
    • Type the word "cafeteria"
  3. Delete the second sentence: "It isn't a very nice day."
    • Select the part you want to delete: Use your mouse to point where you want the deleting to begin, then drag over the text you want to delete.
    • Press Backspace or Delete key.
  4. Go to the end of the second paragragh and add the sentence: "Please write soon."
  5. Move the second paragraph to the end of the letter:
    • Select the second paragraph: Use your mouse to point at the left margin at the beginning of the second paragraph, double click to mark the paragraph.
    • Click the Cut button on the standard tool bar.
    • Move your cursor to the end of the last paragraph, click.
    • Click the Paste button on the standard too bar.
  6. Save again, check spelling, and print. Your final product should look at the following:
