The Scrambled Sentence

This activity is a computer exercise appropriate for students who have some facility with the mouse. In this activity the focus is on the phrase "used to".

Directions:

  1. Please open this page using Netscape. If you are using Internet Explorer, please close it and open Netscape.
  2. Save this page on your local computer in c: drive or in a: on your floppy disk. To do this, click File, click Save as. Then in the Save as Type box, click the little arrow and choose Text File. Finally click Save.
  3. Open the MS Word by clicking its icon. Open the file you just saved. Now you are ready to start the exercise.
  4. You should select the words in the boxes and cut and paste them to the correct place at the bottom of the screen to form a sentence. To select, with your mouse, right click when you have placed your cursor on the right of the word you want to select. Then, while keeping your finger pressed down, drag the cursor over the word you want to select. When you have it blackened, lift your finger from the mouse. To cut and paste, do the following: press the Ctrl button and at the same time, press the X key. The word will disappear. Then put your cursor on the place where you want to put the word and press the Ctrl button and at the same time, press the V key. The word will re-appear where you put your cursor.
