Borrowing library materials
Who may borrow from the NSCC Library?
Currently enrolled students and currently employed faculty and
staff at any of the three Seattle Community Colleges can borrow
materials from the NSCC Library. In addition, students currently
enrolled in Western Washington University programs at NSCC and students
enrolled in any Washington State community colleges have borrowing
privileges.
How long may library materials be checked out?
Books, periodicals (magazines, newspapers and journals) and
pamphlets may be checked out for two weeks. Books may be renewed
twice. You may renew books in person or online. Reserve items are checked out for shorter periods of time and must be renewed in person.
Do I need a library card to check out books and other items
at the NSCC Library?
Your NSCC student ID card is your library card. You must have
a sticker on it showing enrollment for the current quarter.
Are there fines for overdue materials?
There are no fines for overdue books and other items from the circulating
collection. There are fines for overdue reserve
items or special loan materials, such as reference books.
For details, see the Library
Policies on Overdue Fines.

Borrowing materials from other libraries
How do I obtain books and other materials from the Seattle Central
Community College Library (SCCC) or from the South Seattle Community
College Library (SSCC)?
You can request items from Central or South directly, through
the library
catalog. Click on the Request Item button near the top
of the screen in the record for the item you want. If you haven't
done this before, ask a reference librarian for help.
How long does it take for books and other items to arrive from
the libraries at Central or South?
On weekdays, it usually takes 24 hours, provided the item is
available (not missing or lost.) Books are delivered twice a day
during the week. There are no deliveries on the weekend. When your
book(s) has arrived, your name will appear on a list taped to a
study carrel at the south end of the Circulation Desk. The library
will hold your books for three school days.
How do I obtain books from other libraries, outside of the Seattle
Community Colleges (SCC)?
You may use your NSCC student ID card to check out materials
in person at any of the Washington State community colleges. You
can search the catalogs of other
libraries yourself or ask a librarian for assistance.
A librarian can help you find books and other items at many libraries
in the Western Library Network. This includes libraries in Washington,
Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Montana. The librarian can request items
from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan.
It can take anywhere from 1 - 3 weeks to obtain items from libraries
outside of the SCC.

to just videos, try a guided keyword search and use the post limit feature
to specify Videorecording under Medium. If you need
help with this feature, please see a reference librarian.
How do I borrow films, videos, DVDs, CDs from the NSCC Library?
If you know the title, you can request it at the Circulation

Patrons are responsible for all audiovisual material they borrow
from the circulating collection and are charged the replacement
cost plus a non-refundable processing fee for all lost items. They
are also charged for damage of audiovisual material depending on
the extent of the damage and if the item is reasonably useable.
