Orientations and Instruction
One of the primary missions of the library is instruction. Library instruction is available for a range of needs and can include any of the following:
  • Introductory library tours
  • Orientations to the library and library research
  • Hands-on workshops for specific courses or course assignments
  • Instruction, guidance and strategies for searching the Internet
  • One-on-one research guidance
  • Credit course in library research in an electronic environment

Librarians can also serve as a resource for instructors in helping them incorporate use of the library in their curriculum.

Scheduling an Orientation
Instructors can schedule an orientation by contacting the librarian liaison for their division. (See below.)

Copyright/Plagiarism
The Teaching and Learning Center's (TLC) web site provides information on copyright and plagiarism.

Placing Materials on Reserve
Instructors who wish to place books, media or other items on reserve for a term should contact the Library Circulation Department at 206-527-3607. It is also possible to make reserve materials available online, through eReserves. Please allow 3 working days for processing.

Purchase Requests
To request the purchase of books or other materials for the library's collection, please contact the librarian liaison for your division, as indicated above.

Media Services & Equipment

Media Services - 206-527-3611
Most of the media collection (videos, DVDs audiocassettes and CDs) is located on the main floor of the library, in the Circulation Department. Media items requiring equipment setup, such as films and slides, are located in Media Equipment, on the second floor of the library.

Videos, DVDs, CDs, etc. owned by NSCC may be checked out by faculty for up to one week. To reserve for classroom use, 24 hours lead time is required. Media from Seattle Central Community College and South Seattle Community College must be reserved 2-3 days in advance and may be checked out for up to a week. Rentals from other sources are available for campus use only, and require one week's advance notice.

Media Equipment - 206-526-0072
A variety of media equipment is available for faculty and staff to use. Faculty and staff wishing to borrow equipment must make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance by calling David Gronbeck at 206-526-0072. Equipment may be borrowed for up to a week.

  • 16mm film projectors
  • Audio-tape players or recorders
  • Boomboxes
  • Digital audio recorder
  • Laser disc player
  • Opaque projectors
  • Overhead projectors
  • Record (LP) players
  • Slide projectors
  • VHS/DVD players with TV

 

High-demand Equipment:

  • Camcorders for videotaping classes or lectures (pick up at and return to Media for off campus use).
  • Computer with data projectors
  • Flipchart/whiteboard
  • Large screen video projector
  • Podium
